My Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 rebuild replaced failing firebox and electronics with LSS Mods hardware plus a ChefsTemp S1 gauge, Breezo fan, and ProTemp wireless thermometer—bringing back connected, battery-capable smoking at lower cost.

Masterbuilt Gravity 1050 Rebuild: ChefsTemp Upgrade on a Budget

Theres a NEW Masterbuilt Gravity Controller Option — One Costs Way Less

My Masterbuilt Gravity 1050 was basically done — Most people turn to a Fireboard, BUT I think I found what might be a better controller, fan and probe solution to pair with my LSS mods rebuild kit to bring this back to life for less than replacing the grill.

In this video I cover what failed, what I replaced, what the LSS upgrades actually improve, how the ChefsTemp system compares with FireBoard on cost and functionality, and whether restoring an older Gravity Series is smarter than buying a new smoker.

If you already own a Masterbuilt Gravity 560, 800, 900 or 1050 and the electronics are starting to become the weak link, this should help you decide whether to repair, upgrade, or replace it.

A side-by-side comparison of the Solo Stove Summit and Bonfire focusing on everyday differences: ash cleanup, integrated stand, ignition speed, and—most importantly—how much flame you can actually see.

Solo Stove Summit vs Bonfire: What’s Better for Real Backyard Fires?

Did Solo Stove FIX the Biggest Problem With Smokeless Fire Pits?

The new Solo Stove Summit is shorter than the Bonfire — but Solo Stove says that smaller design gives you more visible flame, faster starts and better heat where you actually feel it.

So I put the Solo Stove Summit vs Bonfire head-to-head to see what’s actually changed, whether the Summit really starts up 30% faster, how much more flame you can see, and how the new heat-deflector setup performs.

Is less fire pit actually more fire?

Find out whether “season liberally” actually improves ribs. We tested measured rub vs. a heavy rub coat using the same cooker and methods—then picked a clear winner.

How Much BBQ Rub for Ribs? A Real Test (Measured vs. Heavy)

The BBQ Rub Advice Everyone Repeats Is Wrong?

Most BBQ recipes may be telling you to use way more rub than you actually need.
In this video, I test how different amounts of BBQ rub affect ribs—from a light, even coating to the heavy seasoning layers commonly shown in recipes and barbecue videos.

I fired up my Masterbuilt Gravity XT and smoked some ribs side by side... I thought more rub meant more flavour. After testing it side by side, I’m not so sure.

Learn how to get real wood-smoke pulled pork flavor without babysitting an offset smoker—start on splits, switch to pellets, then hot hold overnight to serve on time.

Hybrid Smoker Method: Wood Smoke Flavor + Pellet Hot Hold

Want Offset Flavor Without the Offset Smoker Headache?

I wanted offset-smoker flavour without managing a wood fire all night. So I started this pork shoulder with real splits, switched the Lone Star Grillz smoker over to pellets, and trusted it to finish the cook while I slept.

In this video, I test whether the LSG pellet-and-wood setup can deliver the bark, smoke flavour and tenderness of a traditional offset smoker with the convenience of an overnight pellet cook. I’ll show the wood-fire start, the pellet handoff, temperature control, overnight results and the final pulled pork.

Can this smoker really give you the best parts of an offset and a pellet grill—or is the hybrid idea too good to be true?

A real backyard test compares the Masterbuilt Gravity XT and Weber Smokey Mountain, drilling into temperature control, leaks, overnight confidence, fuel flavor, and cook capacity—plus whether new-school tech truly beats old-school charcoal.

The Best Charcoal Smoker Might Surprise You - Gravity XT vs Weber Smokey Mountain

— Why Gravity Series Owners Love Them

— Gravity XT vs Weber Smokey Mountain: Cooking Tests

— Which Charcoal Smoker Cooks Better?

— Final Verdict: WSM or Gravity XT?

The Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) has been one of the most respected charcoal smokers for decades. It delivers incredible BBQ flavour, but after years of cooking on one, there are a few challenges owners know well.

In this video, I put the Masterbuilt Gravity Series XT head-to-head against the Weber Smokey Mountain to see if a gravity smoker can actually solve the biggest WSM complaints while keeping the charcoal flavour BBQ lovers want.

We test the real-world differences between these two smokers, including:
🔥 Charcoal flavour vs pellet-style convenience
🔥 Temperature control and overnight cooks
🔥 Ribs and smoke quality
🔥 Chicken skin and airflow performance
🔥 High-heat searing ability
🔥 Fire management and ease of use

The Gravity XT promises the best of both worlds: The flavour and fire of a charcoal smoker
The convenience and temperature control people love about pellet grills. But does it actually deliver? Is the Weber Smokey Mountain still the king of backyard BBQ, or has Masterbuilt built the next evolution of the charcoal smoker?

Watch until the end as we put both smokers through real cooking tests and find out where each one shines.

Stop copying restaurant brisket trims. Learn a minimal-trim approach that keeps more of your packer, renders tallow from hard fat, and lets you serve burnt ends, slices, and chopped brisket from the same cook.

How to Trim Brisket for More Meat (No Waste, Better Burnt Ends)

I Stopped Trimming Brisket Like YouTube Told Me To

Brisket is too expensive to throw nearly 1/3rd of it in the garbage! Here’s how I get slices, burnt ends, chopped brisket and beef tallow from the same packer without sacrificing quality.

For years, backyard BBQ cooks have been told to trim their briskets like competition teams and restaurants. The problem? Those cooks are optimizing for appearance and consistency—not getting the most value from an expensive cut of beef.

In this video I’ll show you how I:

* Trim only what actually matters
* Turn every bit of fat into beef tallow
* Separate the point and flat for better results
* Make burnt ends, sliced brisket and chopped brisket from one cook
* Maximize yield without sacrificing bark, smoke or tenderness

If brisket prices have made you think twice about firing up the smoker, this method could save you money every single cook.

If you enjoy evidence-based BBQ experiments, consider subscribing for more Kamado, offset, pellet and live-fire cooking videos every week.

A practical, backyard-focused comparison of the Old Country G2 offset smoker and the Masterbuilt Gravity XT—fire management, airflow, and usable cooking space for ribs.

Offset Smoker Reality Check: Old Country G2 vs Gravity XT

The Offset Smoker Reality Nobody Talks About…

Most people dream of owning an offset smoker for authentic Texas BBQ, but backyard offsets come with compromises that rarely get discussed.

In this video I compare the Old Country G2 Offset Smoker against the Masterbuilt Gravity XT to see whether a gravity-fed charcoal smoker can deliver offset-quality BBQ with fewer downsides. The results were much closer than I expected.

In this video I compare the Old Country G2 Offset Smoker against the Masterbuilt Gravity XT to see how close a gravity-fed charcoal smoker can get to true offset smoker results. We compare flavor, smoke quality, fire management, fuel consumption, cooking capacity, ease of use, and overall value.

A blind tasting of beef ribs cooked on three different kamados—Primo Oval XL, Kamado Joe Classic II, and Big Green Egg XL—tests whether ceramic grill brand truly changes flavor.

Kamado Grill Flavor Test: Big Green Egg vs Kamado Joe vs Primo (Ribs)

I Thought Kamados Cooked Differently… I Was Wrong

Can you actually taste the difference between a Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe and Primo Oval XL? To find out, I cooked identical beef ribs on all three kamados and ran a blind taste test. The results might upset some people...

Question: Could you identify which kamado cooked each rib? Let me know in the comments before watching the reveal.

For years I’ve heard people argue about which kamado grill produces the best flavor. Some swear by the Big Green Egg, others prefer Kamado Joe, and many believe the Primo Oval’s unique shape creates better barbecue.

But can people actually taste the difference?

In this video I cook the same beef ribs on a Big Green Egg XL, Kamado Joe Big Joe and Primo Oval XL using the same charcoal, wood, temperature and cooking method. Then I put the results to the test with a blind tasting panel to see whether these premium ceramic grills produce noticeably different barbecue.

If you’re considering a Big Green Egg vs Kamado Joe comparison, thinking about buying a Primo Oval XL, or simply wondering whether premium kamados really create different flavor profiles, this experiment may surprise you.

A head-to-head test of the Lone Star Grillz El Fuego Trio and Camp Chef Woodwind Pro explores wood-smoke flavor, airflow, temperature behavior, smoke rings, and bottom browning—plus key limitations of the comparison.

Pellet Smoker vs Wood Smoke: El Fuego Trio Tests Against Woodwind Pro

Did The LSG El Fuego Trio FIX The Pellet Smoke Problem The Woodwind Pro Couldn’t?

Pellet grills have always had one major weakness: smoke flavor. That’s why companies like Lone Star Grillz and Camp Chef created entirely different ways to burn real wood inside a pellet smoker. One uses wood splits. The other uses wood chunks. Both claim to bring pellet cooking closer to offset smoker quality.

But do they actually work?

In this video I put the Lone Star Grillz Pellet Smoker head-to-head against the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro to find out which produces better smoke flavor, better barbecue, and whether either can truly rival an offset smoker.

🔥 Wood Splits vs Wood Chunks
🔥 Pellet Smoker vs Offset Flavor
🔥 Smoke Ring, Bark & Rib Comparison
🔥 Real-World Taste Test Results
🔥 Has The Lone Star Grillz DETHRONED The Woodwind Pro?

If you’ve ever wondered whether burning real wood can finally fix the biggest complaint about pellet grills, this is the test you’ve been waiting for.

A hands-on blind taste test compares an offset-style live-fire charcoal setup to the LSG El Fuego Trio’s pellet-assisted cooking with real wood splits—plus why the difference became so small.

LSG El Fuego Trio Review: Pellet + Wood Split Smoke Test

Is This a REAL Offset Smoker Replacement? (LSG El Fuego Trio)

Most pellet vs offset comparisons aren’t fair… until now. I tested a pellet grill that can burn wood splits vs a proper wood only burning offset smoker to see how close it actually gets when you remove all the other variables.

In this video, I use the LSG El Fuego Trio's Wood Split basket to burn real wood splits inside a pellet grill VS my Adjustable charcoal grill burning only wood creating one of the fairest pellet vs offset tests possible for backyard BBQ.

Pellet vs Offset Smoker Test (Real Wood Splits in a Pellet Grill)
This video explores one of the most realistic pellet vs offset smoker comparisons possible using the LSG El Fuego Trio. Unlike typical pellet grill tests, this setup allows you to burn real wood splits inside the pellet fire pot, creating a hybrid cooking method that combines pellet control with traditional wood smoke.

If you’ve ever wondered whether a pellet grill can match an offset smoker, this test shows what happens when you introduce real wood splits alongside pellets. By running the same cooker in different modes—wood fire vs pellet + wood splits—we remove many of the variables that usually make pellet vs offset comparisons unfair.

This is especially relevant for backyard cooks looking for:

* A pellet grill with real wood smoke flavor
* A potential offset smoker alternative
* Hybrid cooking setups using pellets and wood splits
* Ways to improve smoke flavor on a pellet smoker

The LSG El Fuego Trio makes this possible with features like:

* Wood split fire pot capability
* Pellet + wood hybrid cooking
* Fireboard controller for precise temperature control
* Ability to run both live fire and pellet-assisted cooks

Whether you’re a pellet grill user trying to get closer to offset results, or an offset smoker considering a more convenient setup, this test shows how far pellet grills have come.
