I bought a Kamado Joe Classic II for $200 and tried to repair it for dinner the same night. Here’s what went wrong, what I learned about used ceramic grills, and the hidden damage to inspect.

Fixing a Broken Kamado Joe: The 90% Off Deal That Backfired

I Bought a Broken Kamado Joe For 90% Off… Was This a Mistake?

Buying a used Kamado Joe or Big Green Egg can be the deal of a lifetime — or a huge mistake!
In this video, I take a serious gamble on a damaged Kamado Joe Classic 2, attempting to rebuild and repair it for a fraction of the cost of buying new. With premium Kamado grills now costing thousands of dollars, the question is simple: can a broken Kamado actually be repaired for less than the cost of buying a new grill?

I walk through what to look for when buying a used Kamado, the risks involved with structural damage, and whether critical components like the Kamado Joe Airlift Hinge can be retrofit on a series 1 dome as well as if the ceramic body and or dome can realistically be reused or repaired. This isn’t a cosmetic restoration — it’s a real attempt to determine whether repairing a damaged Kamado makes financial and practical sense.

If you’ve ever considered buying a used Kamado Joe, Big Green Egg, or any second-hand Kamado grill, this video shows what can go right — and what can go very wrong
